PerkinElmer has appointed former Affymetrix CEO, Frank Witney, to the its board of directors.

“I am delighted to welcome Frank to PerkinElmer’s Board, as he brings deep market knowledge and over 30 years of leadership experience across the life sciences, diagnostics and analytical instruments industry,” said Robert Friel, chairman and chief executive officer at PerkinElmer.

Most recently, Witney served as president and chief executive officer of Affymetrix (now part of Thermo Fisher Scientific), which specialized in microarray technology and cellular analysis. Previously, he was president and chief executive officer of Dionex Corp, a market-leading ion chromatography and high performance liquid chromatography company.

Prior to that, Witney first joined Affymetrix when it acquired Panomics, a quantitative biology company, which he led as president and chief executive officer. He previously held the role of president of PerkinElmer’s Drug Discovery Tools division following the acquisition of Packard BioScience in 2001, where he served as president and chief operating officer. Witney also held several positions at Bio-Rad Laboratories, leading that company's efforts to enter the proteomic and bioassay technologies market.

Witney holds a doctorate in molecular and cell biology from Indiana University, and was a post-doctoral fellow at the National Institutes of Health from 1980 to 1983. He earned an undergraduate degree in microbiology from the University of Illinois. He is currently chairman of the board for Gyros Protein Technologies and also holds board positions for Cerus Corporation and Exagen Diagnostics.
