Smithers Viscient appoints head of chemistry

The European business of Smithers Viscient, a US contract research organization, has appointed Robin Brinham, formerly of ICI, to the newly-created role of director of chemistry. Part of the Smithers Group, Smithers Viscient provides environmental testing, ecotoxicology and regulatory services for the crop protection, seed technology, pharmaceutical, industrial chemical, and the consumer and household product industries.

'I am delighted to welcome Robin to Smithers Viscient; he is a great addition to our leadership team in Europe,' says David Phillips, Smithers Viscient's managing director. 'Robin is an experienced chemist and business manager with a proven track record of success in the chemistry based markets. He has 26 years of R&D experience mostly within the oil and gas industry, and will be a great lead for to the chemistry team.'

Smithers Viscient is also planning to scale up its chemistry department and invest in new equipment over the next few months, which will include bolstering its mass spectrometry suite and further increasing the department’s capabilities and services.
