Optra Health, a US developer of medical devices and informatics tools, has launched a new web-based text mining and annotation tool for dealing with the sheer volume and complexity of biological information.
Termed 'Automation of Knowledge', the tool employs medical machine learning, artificial neural networks and intelligent programs that mimic human problem solving skills to handle and retrieve relevant scientific information from research publications or large scale biological data, especially genomic data. It can identify biomedical entities of interest using a context specific analysis and develop efficient algorithms to process text and make information accessible to computer applications.
According to Optra Health, the 'Automation of Knowledge' tool can create robust databases for clinically significant variants and mutations responsible for inherited disorders, drug-gene interactions and epigenetic markers for research, and personalized risk reports for prenatal screening or counselling for diagnostic laboratories.
