A proteomics study has identified a link between the levels of proteins in the serum and sputum of asthmatics for whom the disease is poorly controlled, providing early indications when further clinical intervention is needed to give a better outcome.

An integrated course based on 2D gel electrophoresis and mass spectrometry provides undergraduates with an opportunity to systematically understand the proteomic techniques and their applications in current scientific research.

US scientists have found that up to 126 proteins in seven tissue types were affected by oral exposure of mice to nicotine, sending warning signals to consumers who smoke electronic cigarettes under the misapprehension that they are safe.
