Salinilactones displaying an unusual bicyclic [3.1.0]‐lactone skeleton that are structurally closely related to the A‐factor class of compounds have been identified in marine Salinispora bacteria using GC/MS, GC/IR, DFT‐calculation and synthesis.

A combined approach involving DNA profiling and proteome analysis has been applied to the analysis of traces of biofluids trapped under fingernails to provide forensic evidence, using a single microswab for both procedures.

Rapid enzymatic processing of proteins over a few minutes in proteomic studies to give only partial digestion is at least as good as complete digestion, say US researchers, providing a valid alternative that streamlines and speeds up proteome characterisation.
