Program aimed at PhD candidates and postdoctoral researchers; first applications due December 31

CASSS, the Californian Separation Science Society, has created a new fellowship to introduce graduate students and post-doctoral researchers to the broad range of possibilities in the field of biopharmaceutical science and technology.

The CASSS Frantisek Svec Fellowship for Innovative Studies will encourage cross-training and innovative learning opportunities, thereby helping build the fellowship recipient’s capability to be a leader in the biopharmaceutical field.

Applications for funding in 2017 are due December 31, 2016.

“We hope that fellowship recipients gain a passion for investigating biotechnology that will shape the future of biopharmaceuticals,” said Edwin Moore, PhD, a member of the CASSS task force that created the fellowship. “It is the board’s intent that recipients of the fellowship award will gain a deeper understanding of the importance of scientific research, especially biotechnology research, and the importance of their research to pharmaceutical applications.”

The fellowship program has been named in honor of CASSS Distinguished Fellow Frantisek “Frank” Svec. Moore said Svec epitomizes the academic scientist with a vision of application of research to analytical chemistry and separation sciences.

“Frank has demonstrated leadership in academics, in scientific research, in publication of key findings, and in scientific societies like CASSS that apply these learnings to biopharmaceutical product development,” Moore said.

Current graduate students enrolled in a program or post-doctoral researchers working in a discipline applicable to biopharmaceutical sciences are eligible to apply for a grant of up to $5,000. The fellowship is open to participants from any geographic region who may apply to work or study in any location.
