Quality is of extreme importance for the laboratory. However, it is often seen as the responsibility of the quality manager and its importance and impact on your own work is not always well understood. The quality handbook collects dust in the bottom drawer. In this webinar, Peter Kootstra will reinforce how quality can improve your performance and your work satisfaction. He will give examples why the implementation of quality systems based on ISO standards in labs often fails – and why the quality manual is not used – and provides tips and ways to successfully introduce quality systems, namely fitting the day-to-day laboratory practice.

Key learning objectives

  • Understanding the basis concept of a laboratory quality system.
  • Understanding the importance of method validation.
  • Understanding the aim of the laboratory to produce validated and traceable.
  • Acquire fundamental information about laboratory assessments and what competence really means.

Who should attend?

  • Analysts in industry and university who want to know how quality impacts the lab.
  • Those who were confronted with quality systems based on ISO/IEC 17025, ISO 15189, and never understood their importance.
  • Those who tried to convince their employees of its importance but failed to get their point across.

Peter Kootstra: Biography

Peter is an analytical scientist. He worked for over 20 years at the National Institute for Public Health and the Environment where he developed analytical methods for environmental monitoring, ambient air monitoring and residue analysis. Before he decided to become a self-employed consultant he was also head of the laboratory for toxicology at the Netherlands Forensics Institute. He became interested in quality systems when he was asked to become a technical assessor for the Dutch Accreditation Board. During the assessments he became aware of the pitfalls of a laboratory quality system and saw the efforts laboratory staff made trying to maintain the system they build themselves. Peter is co-owner of Lab-QAcademy and has been giving courses for many years.
