Thermo Fisher introduces new DNA isolation kit

Thermo Fisher Scientific has expanded its line of endotoxin-free plasmid DNA isolation products with the launch of the PureLink Expi Endotoxin-Free Maxi Plasmid Purification Kit. With a simple and fast protocol for isolation, the kit allows researchers to yield up to 1.5mg of endotoxin-free, advanced transfection-quality plasmid DNA in less than 90 minutes.

The kit uses novel, proprietary anion exchange membrane-based columns, in combination with a vacuum-assisted workflow, to isolate advanced transfection-grade plasmid DNA in about half the time of current standard protocols. Researchers can now achieve high yields of endotoxin-free DNA in significantly less time without compromising quality or purity.

"Faster time to protein expression means faster results," said Helge Bastian, vice president and general manager of synthetic biology and sample preparation at Thermo Fisher Scientific. "Our customers want plasmid preparation to be simple, prompt, reliable and economical. Our streamlined purification process provides the highest quality plasmid DNA in a short period of time, passing back valuable time to our customers and allowing them to focus on less routine and higher value activities in their daily work."

Unlike other, more time-intensive anion exchange resin-based columns that rely on gravity flow to purify the DNA, the PureLink Expi Endotoxin-Free Maxi Purification Kit utilizes membrane-based columns, enabling rapid vacuum or centrifugation based plasmid DNA purification. The kit completes Thermo Fisher's portfolio of endotoxin-free plasmid DNA isolation kits, including Mega scale for isolation of up to 5mg of ultraclean DNA and Giga scale for yields of up to 15mg.
