The American Chemical Society (ACS) has appointed Thomas Hofmann of the Technical University of Munich (TUM) in Germany as the new editor-in-chief of its Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry (JAFC).

Hofman is professor of food chemistry and molecular sensory science at TUM's Center of Life and Food Sciences Weihenstephan. In his research, Hofman uses various analytical techniques, including chromatography and mass spectrometry, to screen and analyze organoleptic and bioactive natural products in food materials, and was the recipient of the JAFC Research Article of the Year Award in 2013. He will take on his new role in 2015.

'Dr. Hofmann’s impact on the field, energetic approach to science and his editorial experience will lead the Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry forward as it continues publishing the best food and agricultural research of the international scientific community,' says Susan King, senior vice president of the Journals Publishing Group at ACS.
