Thermo Fisher Scientific has launched a new anion exchange (AEX) resin for use in large-scale process chromatography, which it claims offers higher product yield, improved product purity and greater process flexibility in either bind and elute or flow-through modes.

Based on the POROS bead platform, the POROS XQ chromatography resin utilizes rigid 50µm polymeric beads with a unique surface chemistry to produce high-capacity and high-resolution protein separations and purifications. This allows researchers to use smaller column sizes than are possible with conventional resins, decreasing water and buffer use.

'The POROS high performing chromatography resins provide unique performance attributes and drive benefits to downstream processing,' said Christine Gebski, product management director, POROS chromatography, at Thermo Fisher Scientific. 'Now, POROS XQ extends these established benefits to AEX chromatography.' Thermo Fisher unveiled this new AEX resin at the recent BioProcess International conference and exhibition in Boston, US.
