BIOCRATES Life Sciences, an Austrian developer of mass spectrometry-based kits, has launched the first ever LC-MS assay for determining endogenous bile acids.

BIOCRATES' new assay is designed for use with high performance liquid chromatography and electrospray tandem mass spectrometry. It allows 16 human-specific and 19 mouse-specific bile acids to be simultaneously analysed in a single 10µL sample of human or mouse plasma.

Bile acids are essential for regulating cholesterol metabolism and for the intestinal digestion and absorption of fat, and play an important role in sepsis, drug metabolism and many chronic disorders.
