Following receipt of all necessary regulatory approvals, Thermo Fisher Scientific has formally completed its $13.6 billion acquisition of Life Technologies (see Thermo Fisher to acquire Life Technologies for $13.6 billion).

'We are pleased to announce that this transaction is now complete, and excited about our opportunity to create unrivaled leadership in serving research, life sciences, specialty diagnostics and applied markets,' said Marc Casper, president and chief executive officer of Thermo Fisher Scientific. 'Our combined offering provides cutting-edge technologies, such as genomics and proteomics, to accelerate life sciences research and improve human health. And our complementary strengths in biosciences and bioprocessing will accelerate drug discovery, development and production.'

Thermo Fisher will now incorporate Life Technologies into a new business division called Life Sciences Solutions, along with its existing Biosciences businesses. Mark Stevenson, former chief operating officer of Life Technologies, has been appointed president of this new business division. Among other changes instigated by the Life Technologies purchase, Thermo Fisher is changing the name of its Analytical Technologies division to Analytical Instruments, to reflect the transfer of its Biosciences businesses to the new Life Sciences Solutions division.
